At Riverwood College we are fortunate to accommodate approximately 60 boys on two fields of which one has floodlights where day-night games are played on. Our highlight of the year is our annual Riverwood College Cricket Series held during the July-holiday, where we host schools from all over the country.

We participate in the Umgungundlovu league and every year some of Riverwood College learners represent KZN and compete at a national level.
Indoor Hockey
At Riverwood College we participate in Indoor Hockey for girls during the 4th term. It is a short season but serves as good preparation for the outdoor season. We use the YMCA indoor courts to practise four days a week with two junior and two senior teams.
Esports
Riverwood College is part of the High Schools E-Sports League (HSEL) where we compete against schools across the country. We have built a dedicated gaming centre where our learners can compete, practise and strive to be the best. We believe here at Riverwood College that the common definition of a sport is “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.” Competitive gaming hits every single one of these points. In competitive gaming your skills need to include incredible hand-eye coordination and precision. You need to be extremely competitive against the opposing team along with being a team player in your own right. Due to its incredibly large competitive format, physical strain, and set of required skills, gaming is a sport.
Netball
Riverwood College participates in the A-league fixtures in the KZN Midlands. We have yielded outstanding KZN players over the years who have competed at an international level. We also compete in the Fast Five Tournament as well as the Action Netball league hosted at the Pietermaritzburg Indoor Centre.
7s Rugby
7s Rugby is becoming increasingly popular and in the upcoming season we will have 2 senior and 2 junior teams. We host an annual 7s tournament held at the Woodburn Stadium that is a big highlight on the Pietermaritzburg rugby calendar.

Although not too big, the group of hardworking and dedicated individuals compete in 6 teams at school. We have yielded a number of top KZN players over the past few years and are extremely proud to offer specialised coaching by Mr D Brown.

We have players that were selected over the past five years that respresented KZN-Midlands in 4/14 – u/19 teams. Our players receive specialised coaching by Mr P Wilson Olumu who is an ex Nigerian football midfielder and also ex-player for Maritzburg United.
Cross Country
A group of dedicated learners get together twice a week to train for cross-country events that take place at numerous schools throughout the year. We also have an excellent team that participates in the Mudman Series (cycling, running and swimming) and for the past two years they have won four out of the five events in the schools division.
Swimming
